Nov 2025 |
What's happening

Enshittification: Why Everything Suddenly Got Worse and What to Do About It
by Cory Doctorow, ⭐: 3.5/5
Read This When Things Fall Apart: Letters to Activists in Crisis
by Kelly Hayes, ⭐: 4.5/5
1:
People become organizers and activists because they are hungry for belonging. People become care workers because they have not been cared for in the ways they should have been.
We agitate because our survival depends on it. We also come to organizing with real fear in our hearts, inherited violence, and a dangerous sense of scarcity that morphs into a desire for power and maintaining the status quo. In my short time as an organizer, I have learned that it is easier to call out others' behavior than to change one's own; that for many of us, it is far, far easier to take care of others and take on others' pain than to attend to our own. I have learned that there are no saviors or heroes in movements, just people who show up.
2:
This can take so many different forms, and if this form of sharing power is new to you, consider starting with something small, and celebrate every time you let someone in. Let someone bring you food or send you a gift card for groceries or food delivery. Let folks know that you are open to receiving care packages, and let them surprise you with what they send. If you take walks alone, maybe invite a friend or two to accompany you in silence, or however you need.
You may be wondering how on earth you will be able to receive so much care when you are not able to give anyone a single damn thing right now. You may be wondering how you deserve any of this support. You may be wondering what you will have to do to repay everyone around you who is helping you get through this time. If so, I totally get it. If I may, I would love to offer a reframe and an invitation.
Racial capitalism and white supremacy culture have us living very isolated and individualistic lives. Many of our institutions are held together through transactional relationships that often replicate carceral logics and systems of oppression. I invite you to take this opportunity to experiment with what reciprocal relationships might be able to look like.
In the world so many of us are trying to build, our relationships are not extractive or built upon an expectation of immediate material reward attached to every action. Our relationships are reciprocal, generative, fluid, organic, spacious, filled with life, and rooted in love. We are living Bell Hooks's vision for loving relationships by extending ourselves to one another in the spirit of nurturing each other's holistic, spiritual growth. You have the opportunity to help create this world by rehearsing it right now, in this time of grief.
I invite you to let others extend themselves to you in this time, and I invite you to practice vulnerability by just receiving right now. You did not have to do a thing to deserve this support, and when you have moved through this moment, you do not owe anyone anything beyond what we all owe to each other through our relational bonds.
影 Movies
Wicked: For Good
The dating game
Games
Split Fiction
Shelldiver
